PAUL KARABINIS

Paul Karabinis received his BA in Philosophy and MFA in Photography from the University of Florida, Gainesville. He earned an MA in Art History from Boston University. Karabinis served as Director of the University Gallery, University of North Florida, Jacksonville from 1981 till 2006.

He has curated exhibitions and catalogs including: Gathering Light: Photographs from the Collection of Joe and Jennifer Duke, University of North Florida; Telling Stories: Contemporary Tableau Photography, Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art; History/Mystery: The Photographs of Jerry N. Uelsmann 1957-1993, Harn Museum of Art, Gainesville. Karabinis wrote an introduction to Jerry Uelsmann: Other Realities (Bullfinch Press). He wrote the catalog essay and image commentaries for Sheltering Eye: Selections from the Prentice and Paul Sack Photography Collection, an exhibition organized by the Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art. He co-curated and wrote the catalog essay and image commentaries for Shared Vision: The Collection of Sondra Gilman and Celso Gonzalez-Falla, Museum of Contemporary Art, Jacksonville (Aperture Press).

From 2007 -2020 (retired), he served as Associate Professor of Photography at the University of North Florida where he taught courses in Photography, History of Photography, Art History, Senior Portfolio and Alternative Photographic Processes.
